"Good Again?"

Describe Amir's life in America. Has it been successful? Fulfilling? After chapter 16, what are your thoughts on Amir's struggle with his own guilt at this point in the novel? How has your opinion changed about him since he was a boy in Kabul? Do you think he can "be good again?"

  1. Amirs life has been successful. He is graduating high school. Yay! I think Amir is pretty good with his guilt. And I don't think a lot has changed with him since he was a kid as he still wants to be a writer. I think he can be good again. Sure.

  2. Amir's life in America has been successful so far. He graduates high school, has a plan for college, and he & Baba's relationship is going good. Amir doesn't struggle with his guilt as much as he used to when he was younger. He tries not to think about Hassan, and it works mostly. But when Baba mentions how he wished Hassan was with them the day Amir graduated, Amir's guilty feelings all come flying back and he feels like he can't breathe. So, Amir isn't dealing with his guilty feelings at all. He's trying to forget about them. My opinion has changed a little, considering he's grown now. But he's still a coward hiding from his past, doing nothing to make it right, not even thinking about it. I think he CAN be good again, I just don't think he wants to.

  3. Amir's life in America is successful so far. He has graduated from school, got married, and found a career. Amir seems to not let his guilt bother him as much as it used to. My opinion on Amir is that he seems not so selfish anymore and has grown up since he lived in Kabul. I think he can be good again if he finds Hassan and makes up for what he did.

  4. Amir's life has successful . He graduated from high school. Amir's guilt is not bad but he still thinks about it. He has not changed still a coward for not fixing the past. I think he can be good again if he stops being a coward and confronts Hassan and fixes what he messed up.

  5. Amir's life has been harder than he would of liked it to be. Once he graduates high school, he wants to go to college. He has never had a good relationship with Baba, but it is finally going good. He has been doing much better with his guilt as he has gotten older. He does not want Hassan on his mind because that is what hurts him the most thinking about so he tries not to think about him. Then Baba brings up how he wishes Hassan would of been there for his Graduation and Amir's guilt comes back. Amir is still a coward, but I really think he can be better again, he just has to work harder to make things right so it is actually possible for him to be good again.

  6. Amir has been successful in America. He graduated high school, and he went to college, and started writing fiction novels. He managed to get multiple books published, and he got married to a young woman named Soraya. Amir still struggles with the guilt, but it is not as severe as when he was a child. Amir is able to forget about his past in America, and immerse himself in his life there. I think Amir has learned a lot about life, and has grown immensely. He is still a coward for hiding from his past, and not being completely honest with his wife about his past. I think Amir can be good again, but he has to come to terms with his past first.

  7. Life in America has been good so far for Amir. Everything is a lot better with his dad and he has good goals set for himself. Amir misses Hassan randomly but he tries to not think about it so it is easier for him to feel no guilt at all. I think the same of Amir. He is still at his old ways. I think he could be good if he tried but I don't think he will try any time soon. I am still not a fan of Amir.

  8. Amir has had a good life in America. He graduated school, got married, and finished a book he was writing. He has mainly forgotten the life that he left behind in Kabul, but he may have to go back when Rahim Khan calls him. If he goes back he may find a way to be good again.

  9. I think Amir's life in America has been successful. He finished high school and is going to go to college. He still struggles with his guilt a little but not as much because he tries not to think about it. When Baba brought up Hassan all his guilt came back to him. I think Amir wants to be good again and I think he could but I don't think that he wants to do anything to make him good again.

  10. He has had a very successful life in America, he is finally graduating from high school and plans on attending college. His relationship with Baba is still good, it is getting better that's for sure. Amir is feeling guilt because he has had so much guilt held in that he finally cannot take it anymore, he feels enclosed and trapped and unable to breath. My opinion has not changed of him so far. I believe he can be a really great writer again, it's just if he chooses to be one or not. It's all up to him and what he decides to do.

  11. Amir's life now that he has moved to America has been very good for him. Baba and Amir have become closer. Baba wishes Hassan was with them and Amir gets emotional but covers them up. I think that my opinion has stayed the same mostly but I wish he would have done something about Hassan. I think he can be good again, now he just needs to put his mind in it and make it happen.

  12. I feel that Amir's life has been successful in California. He needed to move out of Afghanistan to escape the difficult occurrences that he has had to deal with. The things that happened to him were keeping him from living a normal life. Baba has showed more affection toward him since he moved to America by throwing him a graduation party. He made it possible for Amir to finish high school in America. I feel that he has matured from his earlier years and that he can be good again.

  14. Hes doing good in America as of right now, he graduated school and he wants to go to college and get more schooling. him and his dad are doing better. he doesn't have as much as guilt but it affects him when he thinks about Hassan. I think he can be good again he just has to face his fears and man up and talk to hassan

  15. Amir's life in America is successful so far. He graduates from high school, he has a career, his and Baba's relationship is going good, and he ends up getting married. He is not struggling with his guilt about the past as much. He doesn't think of Hassan much until his graduation day when Baba said he wishes that Hassan would have been with them. Amir ends up feeling guilty again, he attempts to forget the guilt but can't. My opinion has changed some, I don't think he as selfish as he once was, but I still think he needs to confront his past and make amends with the Hassan before he can truly move forward with no guilt, I think he could be good again, I just don't know if he wants to make an effort to be good again.

  16. Amir's life is going much better now. Amir has graduated from high school and found a career that he likes. He does not let the things that bothered him before bother him anymore. He also found a girl of his life that he got married to. I think that amir is going to be a good person again and try to regret what he did to Hassan.

  17. Amir's life has been successful in America because he married a girl named Soraya and has graduated high school. Amir and Baba are getting along good which is a great thing. Amir also finishes his first novel. Amir hasn't really done anything with his guilt because he tries not to think about what happened to Hassan and is trying to forget about it. He says America is about forgetting the past so he's trying to get rid of what happened to Hassan. My opinion has changed because he wants to start a new life and be successful.

  18. Amir's life in America is going good for him. He graduated from high school, got married, and found a job. Him and his dad are getting along now. he is still like he used to be because he is still hiding from his past. I think if he grows up a little more things will be better.

  19. I think that Hassan is successful when he goes to America. He graduates from high school, and want to get a job, but his father wants him to go to college. He decides to go, but he wants to write he his dad does not like that idea. I think he does not struggle with is group since he moved. He remembers things, when Hassan name is brought up, but his guilt eventually goes away. I think that if he got his feelings out about the past and told someone, he would be good again.

  20. So far Amir's life with Baba in America has been successful. Amir graduated High School and wants to go to college for English, and write books. His relationship with Babe is better then it has been in the past. As Amir gets older he doesn't dwell on guilt about Hassan as much. He does his best to block Hassan from his memory, However Baba brought up Hassan the day Amir graduated, and that made the guilt come right back. In opinion, I believe Amir is the same now as he was when he was little. He is trying to forget things, not solve them. Amir has done nothing to show his remorse or empathy for Hassam what so ever.

  21. Amirs life in America has been a success. He finished high school and is now going to college.Baba and Amir have become closer than they once were although Baba wishes that Hassan was with them. Amir gets very upset when he figures this out, but he just hides his emotions from Baba. I think that if he would have done something about Hassan he wouldnt feel guilty and Hassan would still be living with him and Baba, Amir can still be a good person he just hasn't proved hes trying to be.

  22. Amir's life in America has been successful. He graduated from high school, and is furthering his writing career. I think he stills struggles with the guilt but not near as much. I have gotten more respect for him now that he has gone back, and I believe he can be good again.

  23. Amir's life in America has been successful in many ways. He graduated high school, and is going to college for a major. Longer down the line he meets a girl and is living with her.

  24. Amir's life in American has been way better than his past life in Afghanistan. He graduates high school and continues his writing career. He and Baba are getting along great, compared to his childhood when they didn't get along very well. Amir meets the love of his life, Soraya, and they are soon married. Amir doesn't deal with the guilt about leaving Afghanistan and Hassan. He tries to ignore his past and all of the sins he created. I believe he went to American hoping to wash away his past memories. In my opinion, Amir has changed. He's living a great new life in California with his family, but something in the back of his mind keeps reminding him of leaving behind his best friend and practically brother, Hassan, that he cannot deal with.

  25. Amir's life in America has been successful. Amir had graduated from college, and his relationship with Baba is better than it has been in Afghanistan. I think Amir is doing better with feeling guilty. He doesn't feel as guilty as he did in Afghanistan. he tries to forget about Hassan. My opinion about Amir has changed a little, He is still a coward from keeping his past a secret, but I do think he has matured a lot since he fled to America. I think If Amir can be good again, if he really wanted to and worked at it,

  26. Amir has been very successful in America so far. he graduates high school and goes to college. He is even getting along with baba. He meets Soraya and they get married Amir tries to ignore his past by not dealing with his guilt of leaving Hassan in Afghanistan. Amir went to America wanting to forget his memories of the past. He is living a great new life in California but he simply cant forget Hassan.

  27. Amir's life in American has been successful and I believe have changed him in many ways. Baba and his relationship is stronger than what it was back in Afghanistan. Both of them moving to American has changed both of them for the better. Amir is still struggling with the past of what happened in the alley way with Hassan. I believe that him not being able to say sorry and tell Hassan how he feels has made him feel guilty. He still feels that he should have done something that day or treated Hassan better after the incident had happened. I think he can be good again once he goes back and finds out things that he has unknown for so long.

  28. Amirs life in America has been successful so far. He graduated high school and was able to pursue his writing passion/career in college. He married a women named Soraya, but soon feels bored with his marriage because all they talk about is work. Amir's guilt at this point in the story has decreased; however, he still feels guilty about leaving Hassan and for what he did to him. My opinion hasn't change about Amir, and I still think that he self conceited; however, I think that after his trip back to Afghanistan and seeing Hassan will change him and give him the chance to be "good again."

  29. Life in American for Amir has been a good life compared to what he was getting. He has graduated high school and going to college for a writing major. Amir is trying to forget what he saw that day with Hassan. He never really thinks of it except for his graduation day when Baba said that he wished Hassan was with them to celebrate. My opinion has changed. He is trying to make a living by going to college and getting married to Soraya. He is trying to make is life better and move on from his past in Kabul.

  30. Amirs life in America has been much better than his life in Afghanistan. He has graduated from high school, and is now thinking about going to college with the same dream he had as a kid, to be a writer. Him and Baba are actually getting along very well, way better than they were when Amir was a boy. Amir is dealing with his guilt in a positive way. He just tries not to think of Hassan, that way he can live without the massive amount of guilt he has towards Hassan. I think that he has become a better person through time and growth, but I still don't like him because of his past. Yes he can be good again and right now I think he is on the right track.

  31. Amir's new life in America has been really successful for him. He finished high school and has graduated. Amir majors in English and begins his career as a writer. His relationship with Baba has also gotten stronger. Amir marries Soraya and lives happily with her. Amir has not been having much struggle in his life, until Baba brings up that he wished Hassan was there when Amir graduated. Amir's guilt came back to him and tries his best not to worry about it so much. Amir has also struggled when he lost his father. My opinion about Amir has changed since he was a little boy because he is a grown man now. He is more mature and knows what he is doing. I believe that Amir can be good again, but I'm not so sure if he wants to.

  32. His new life has been successful. He became a high school graduate, a husband, and closer to his dad. To Amir his life has just bettered itself tenfold from his life in Afghanistan. He doesn't deal with anything from his past, he tries to avoid it at all times. That doesn't mean he doesn't think about it, his past and what he left still haunt the back of his mind because of the choices he made and how he left his best friend there. He has the potential to be good again, but its all up to Amir deciding if he wants to go back to Afghanistan to do so.

  33. I think Amir is successful with graduation, and getting married. He is fullfilling his life goals by becoming a writer, but there is one empty space in Amirs life. That is him remembering Hassan while dealing with the guilt still and wondering about Hassans life. I think Amir is trying to better himself and has done a decent job of that but in my opinion he still has along way to go to prove he is a good guy.

  34. Amir is successful because he has graduated school and has started a family. I think that Amir will never live down what happened to Hassan and the guilt will be with him forever. I still think that Amir still lives for himself because if he was trying to better himself he would make it up to Hassan.

  35. Amir's life in America has been great. He graduated high school, and want to start a career with going to college. As he's in America he meets a girl and he is living with her and wants to start a family. His life is good as in right now.

  36. Amir's life in america was good for him because he got married and graduated high school. He is becoming a successful writer, but he can not get over what Happened with Hassan. I believe Amir is attempting to cope with the whole Hassan thing by doing all these good things, but he still needs to make it up to Hassan.

  37. Amir has a successful life because he graduated high school and got married. Amir is becoming a better writer, Amir didn't like the way it ended with Hassan, but his relation ship with Baba is very strong. Amir just tries to continue life normally and doesn't think about Hassan and thinks about what will lie ahead for him.

  39. Amir's life in America starts of in poverty but everything just keeps getting better (untill Baba gets sick). Overall his life is successful. He has bonded with Baba, gotten a wife, beat poverty, and become a fictional writer.
Amir just can't get over what happened to Hassan, he still has insomnia and thinks about him. I think that by this time Amir has grown into a good man and husband.
I can't really answer the last question because I already know the answer to it, and because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone else here I'm just not gonna write it

  40. Amir's life has been successful to him, since he's become a writer and is married. He's taking his guilt pretty well, I mean he HAS gone on for a bunch of years without making it up to himself. It's coming back to him now though. I still don't really like Amir because he should've redeemed himself earlier in his life. He has a family, yeah, but he needs to take responsibility for the things he's done in his past. He can be good again if he does the right things.

  41. I think that Amir's life has been very successful in America. I think that his life would not have been nearly as successful had he stayed in Afghanistan. I think that he has put his guilt behind him and that he has accepted it. I think that he has matured a lot since he was young, but I think that on the inside he still a coward. I think that he can change for the better.

  42. I believe that Amir is making himself into a better person to forget about his past. He realizes that he will always have that memory of Hassan but is trying to get past it by creating a better life in America. I think that the only way that Amir can become good again is if he accepts what has happened and goes back to his home country to do what he can to make his past easy to get past.
